PROVO, Utah, Dec. 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 62-year-old cyclist was killed Sunday evening by a driver in Provo who then left the scene, according to officials.
Provo Police said in a statement Monday morning the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. when officials received a report that a vehicle had struck a bicyclist at 400 W. 920 South and fled the scene. Officers arrived and found that the bicyclist, Provo resident Mark Robinson, had passed away as a result of his injuries.
Detectives processed the scene and determined that both the suspect vehicle and bicyclist were westbound on 920 South at the time of the collision. The bicyclist was traveling in the middle of the traffic lane when struck, and the suspect vehicle left behind enough debris that detectives knew the make, model, and color of the vehicle.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., the driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old male, turned himself in at the police department. The driver is co-operating with the investigation and detectives are processing the evidence to determine the most appropriate course of action. The driver was using his cellphone to locate an address at the time of the accident.
Provo Police added the department would like to offer condolences to Robinson’s family at this time.
