MIDVALE, Utah, July 8, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say an alleged DUI hit-and-run driver hit a power pole in Midvale, causing a power outage and a small grass fire Monday morning.

A tweet from Unified Police Department at 8 a.m. said: “Crash on Allen Street at 8000 South caused a power outage in the area and a fire at Oak Street and 8000 South.” No one was injured as a result of the incident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m.

8000 South from Oak Street to 700 West will be closed until 11 a.m., officials said. Traffic lights in the Midvale area may be out, the tweet said. A follow-up tweet also said as a result of the power outage caused by the car crash, the water pumps in the area are not working. 8000 South under the I-15 bridge was flooding. As of 9:50 a.m., the water under the bridge has now been pumped out; the road remains closed.

It’s not clear at this time exactly what caused the crash, but 22-year-old Preston Reed has been arrested for DUI in connection with the hit-and-run accident.

A total of 1,036 customers are still without power in zip code 84047; it’s estimated their power will be restored by noon.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
