SOUTH WILLARD, Utah, May 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was seriously injured Monday when a UTV he was trying to retrieve after an earlier accident rolled over and pinned him underneath.

The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office has identified the injured man as Gregory Sperry, 51, of South Willard.

Sperry was transported by helicopter to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden in what deputies estimated to be serious to critical condition, the sheriff’s news release states.

According to the release, at about 12:15 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a rollover on the canal road near 7000 South in South Willard.

They arrived to find Sperry pinned under a Polaris Ranger UTV. Sperry was extricated and flown to the hospital.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was riding the UTV on the canal road (Sunday) night and got in trouble as he left the roadway. The UTV was wedged near a tree,” the news release says.

Sperry walked home and, on Monday, took a friend with him to bring back the UTV.

As they pulled it back onto the canal road with a pickup truck, the UTV rolled over.  Sperry was ejected and pinned under it.

Officials said the investigation is still in the early stages and ongoing.
