HERRIMAN, Utah, May 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 16-year-old boy is dead after being stabbed in Herriman, and police have initiated a homicide investigation.

Deputy Chief Cody Stromberg, Herriman City Police, says police were alerted at about 12:30 p.m., and responded to the area of 14800 S. Beckenbauer Ave. They found the victim in the driver’s seat of a car, he said.

Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but were not able to save the victim, he said.

“The information that was received from dispatch was an altercation between two parties with a weapon involved,” Stromberg said.

The cause of the altercation is not yet confirmed, he said. Witnesses are being interviewed. Two witnesses have been identified, and Stromberg said it is believed at least five people were near or involved in the altercation.

“We’re actively pursuing those leads,” he said. “We just don’t have definitive information as to what happened, or the relationship between the two (assailant and victim). We don’t know.”

Evidence markers had been placed along the street leading to where the car was stopped. The exact nature of what happened, and over what distance, was not immediately revealed.

Stromberg said a graduation was going on in the area, but it is not yet known whether the incident is related to that event or the school in any way.

Stromberg said from what investigators have gathered so far, the crime seems to be an isolated incident. At the time of the news conference, officers had no person of interest in custody, he said.
