SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert accepted the resignation of H. David Burton as a Utah Transit Authority Board member, and immediately appointed and swore in former Utah Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell to fill the post.
All this happened Wednesday afternoon at a UTA Board meeting.
“Greg is a known statesman,” Herbert said, in a statement provided to the media. “His interactions with others are always fair and marked by integrity. He is known to be a collaborative and deliberate problem solver; a leader who is able to bring together varying ideas and diverse opinions to find the best path for the residents of this great state.”
Herbert worked closely with Bell after selecting him as Lieutenant Governor. Bell, now 67, served from 2009 to 2013. Bell resigned to take a CEO job with the Utah Hospital Association.
Herbert said Bell’s experience has helped him “… develop the perspective and judgement to make decisions in a manner that earns the public’s trust and confidence.”
No reason was given for Burton’s resignation, but UTA has taken criticism lately for its management decisions.
