OGDEN, Utah, Aug. 9, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Flames were reaching 30 feet high Thursday night, and into Friday morning, after a three story Ogden apartment complex, which was under construction, burned to the ground in the 100 block of 18th Street.

The blaze was reported at 11:55 p.m., according to Ogden Police Lt. Shane Keyes, watch commander who responded to the site.

Flames were easily 20 to 30 feet high initially, he said, fueled by the bare wood of the construction site. “They had it knocked down pretty well by 1 a.m.,” he said.

Keyes could not confirm reports that semi-trucks on site were fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.

A news release from the Ogden Fire Department, said during this incident “a grass fire started on the 700-west block of 17th street,” which “may have been embers from the original fire on the 100 block of 18th street.”

A total of 35 firefighters from the Ogden City Fire Department, Riverdale Fire Department, Weber Fire District, Washington Terrace Fire, and North View Fire District responded, along with:

• 5 engines

• 3 ladder trucks

• 1 rehabilitation trailer

• 1 ambulance

• 1 paramedic truck

• Battalion chief

• Deputy fire marshal

• Emergency Manager

• Fire chief

“The Ogden Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the apartment fire,” the news release said.

“The building is a total loss, and further evaluation of the exposed structures will be done in the morning.”
