CEDAR CITY, UTAH – June 9, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The Cedar City Police Department has identified the victim of a rock climbing accident as  19-year-old Thomas Harley Rueben Christensen.

Police responded to the report of Christensen, who suffered injuries during a fall while rock climbing June 8 at around 5 p.m. Christensen’s two hiking companions reported that the victim had fallen between twenty and thirty feet. He appeared to sustain fractures and a head injury from the fall.

Officers arrived and found the Christensen and his two male companions approximately 200 feet up above State Route 14 on the mountainside. This location is just outside of Cedar City and is a popular destination for rock climbers. Officers and paramedics climbed to Christensen and attempted to resuscitate him.

The Iron County Search and Rescue Ropes Team responded to assist with getting him off the mountainside and down to State Route 14 where life-flight was prepared to transport the victim. The injuries suffered were too traumatic and Christensen passed away prior to being transported.

At this time there are no indications that this was anything other than a tragic accident.
