CASTLE DALE, Utah, April 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A male driver is dead after a two-car collision about a mile north of Castle Dale, in Emery County.
He has been identified as Trevor Lutes, 41, of Orangeville, Utah.
The accident happened at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol. Two cars were eastbound on State Route 29, approaching its intersection with State Route 10, according to the report. SR 29 had a stop sign, and SR 10 did not.
The first eastbound car stopped at the sign, signaled, then proceeded when it was safe, the UHP report says. The second eastbound car followed without stopping, and collided with a car traveling south on SR-10. The southbound car had the right of way.
The southbound car struck the eastbound car near the driver’s seat, and left the non-yielding driver in extremely critical condition, according to the Utah Highway Patrol report. He was transported to a hospital, but shortly later died of his injuries.
Investigators are still working to determine whether alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
