TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, Jan. 11, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a man after an armed robbery at an extended-stay hotel in Taylorsville.

Unified Police Taylorsville Precinct was contacted at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday by an employee reporting a robbery at Crossland Economy Suites, 5683 S. Redwood Road, according to a news release from the department.

The employee stated that a man wearing all black pointed a black handgun at her and made several demands. She retreated to the back of the business as the suspect ransacked the business cash drawer and stole her purse from the office.

Officers quickly responded and with the assistance of several witnesses were able to track the suspect, later identified as Mario Quintana, 39, to the Harmons Grocery at 5454 S. Redwood Road.

In the Harmons parking lot, Quintana confronted a customer and forcefully demanded her car keys. The customer, fearful for her and her children’s’ safety, provided Quintana with the keys, which he did not have time to use.

Officers were right behind Quintana, who fled on foot to the entrance of the Harmons Grocery store where he was given commands by officers. Officers deployed a Taser, which allowed them to take Quintana into custody.

Officers were able to locate the first victim’s purse, recover the second victim’s vehicle keys, and recover an undisclosed amount of money taken during the initial robbery at Crossland Economy Suites.

Detectives conducted an interview with Quintana and he confirmed his involvement in the robbery, the news release said.

Quintana is in the process of being booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
