SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Nov. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Drivers were delayed on southbound Interstate 15 in South Salt Lake Wednesday due to a dump truck trailer fire.

A tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation said the incident occurred in the area of mile post 303 at 3800 South at approximately 11 a.m. The two left lanes were closed as a result of the crash, but have since reopened.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said a dump truck with a trailer drifted through numerous lanes then hit a median barrier wall after the driver suffered a medical issue. Officials have not said what that medical issue was.

As the truck dragged against the barrier wall, the trailer caught fire, officials said.

Some people passing by managed to pull the driver out of the vehicle and he was transported to an area hospital by ground ambulance. His condition is not known at this stage.

The crash also caused the median to protrude some six or seven feet into the southbound lanes, though no other cars were hit.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
