SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Feb. 25, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — An older home sustained extensive damage Saturday when electrical wiring caught fire and sent smoke throughout the structure.
South Salt Lake Fire Battalion Chief Kent Robertson said the call came in a little before 8 p.m., when the person who lives in the house, at 156 E. 2700 South, came home to find the place filling with smoke.
Two engine companies responded and spent about two hours on scene, pulling down insulation from the attic, where the fire continued to smolder, and checking for hot spots.
Robertson said the home is an older, concrete block structure, and the fire in the wiring didn’t trip the circuit breakers. He said the home isn’t a total loss, but the interior has extensive smoke damage.
There were no injuries in this fire. The Red Cross assisted the home’s only occupant in finding a place to stay, as the house is currently uninhabitable. Damage is estimated at $60,000.
