WEST POINT, Utah June 2, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Five juveniles have been identified as suspects in an episode of early morning gunfire Monday in the Davis County City of West Point.

A Davis County deputy conducting a routine area patrol at about 2:30 a.m. Monday responded to the sound of gunfire in the area of 2000 West and 200 North in West Point.

Deputies located a vehicle believed to be involved leaving the area, and conducted a traffic stop, a Monday evening news release says.

“Deputies, assisted by other local law enforcement agencies, immediately began securing the area. As a precaution, a shelter-in-place was issued for the immediate area. The shelter-in-place was lifted at approximately 5:30 a.m. after deputies determined there was no longer a threat to the public.

“There were no reported injuries related to this incident.”

On Tuesday evening, the Davis County Sheriff Department revealed that five juveniles had been identified and were believed to involved in the Monday the gunfire incident. Their names are not being released due to their juvenile status.

“Two juveniles were booked into the juvenile detention facilities for aggravated offenses,” the Tuesday news release says.

“Three others have been released to their parents with charges pending referral to juvenile court.”

All parties who were believed involved have been accounted for, the DCSO statement says.

“This is not believed to be connected to the homicide that occurred in the same area on May 30. The investigation remains ongoing.”

In the Saturday night fatal shooting in the same area of West Point, victim James Witten, 71, was fatally shot from the street while on or near his porch.

The shooter, believed to have been driving a maroon colored Toyota Camry, has not been identified.
