SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 24, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police arrested a barricaded suspect after he got stuck in the boiler room of a Salt Lake City church early Tuesday morning and had to call them for help.

Unified Police Department officials tweeted Tuesday morning that Shane Paul Owen, 46, was wanted on multiple felony warrants and has an extensive criminal history. He’s now likely to be facing a slew of new charges.

UPD detectives were searching for Owen, and received information that he was in the Woods Cross area Monday evening.

Officers from the UPD located him in Woods Cross and tried to stop his vehicle at approximately 10:30 p.m., but he drove off.

Police officers pursued the suspect and spiked his tires in North Salt Lake but he continued to drive on the rims.

He then ran from the car and into an abandoned church in the area of 850 W. 1500 North. SWAT teams from Salt Lake City were called in to assist.

Early Tuesday morning, Owen called police for help after somehow getting stuck in the boiler room of the church.

He was arrested without incident at approximately 6 a.m.

In addition to the tactical support given by the SLCPD, the Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau also assisted.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
