WEST JORDAN, Utah, Feb. 21, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Approximately 30 firefighters responded to a residential garage fire in West Jordan Friday night, successfully bringing the blaze under control within about 40 minutes, according to the West Jordan Fire Department.
The fire occurred at on home on South Sunrise Place. Initial reports indicated the blaze had started in the garage. When first crews arrived, they found the fire had already begun spreading into the attic of the residence.
“Our first arriving firefighters found that the fire had originated in the garage and was beginning to spread up and into the attic,” said Battalion Chief Travis Ball of the West Jordan Fire Department.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including West Jordan Fire, Unified Fire Authority, and South Jordan Fire, with approximately 30 firefighters working to extinguish the flames. The incident was classified as a one-alarm fire, though additional resources — including an engine, ladder truck, and ambulance — were requested as a precaution.
Chief Ball told Gephardt Daily firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within about 30 minutes and spent an additional 10 minutes checking for extension to ensure the blaze was fully contained.
All occupants were safely evacuated from the home, and no injuries were reported.
Fire crews also responded to pets inside the residence. Three cats were reported in the home at the time of the fire. Firefighters rescued two of the cats, while a third remains unaccounted for.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
