KEARNS, Utah, Feb. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire Authority crews responded to a house fire on Oakshade Lane late Saturday and arrived to find the home’s attached garage engulfed in flames, while billowing from inside the residence.
Owner Robert Espinosa told Gephardt Daily that he and the family were watching TV upstairs when they smelled smoke.
“I walked downstairs … and out to the garage, and I see smoke coming out of the door from the garage. I opened the door and flames started shooting out.”
Espinosa said he slammed the door shut and yelled for everyone to get out of the house.
Everyone in the human family was out safely, he said, “But my dog’s in there. I hope they got him out.”
The firefighters did, indeed, get the 3-year-old beagle mix out safely, and the dog and his owners were happily reunited.
Fire crews were called to the blaze near 6100 W. Oakshade Lane (6745 South) shortly after 8 p.m. and evacuated houses on both sides of the residence as a precaution.
Crews were still on scene at 9:30 p.m., checking for any hot spots in the structure.
A dollar estimate of the damage wasn’t immediately available, but the home sustained significant smoke damage and the condition of a vehicle on the property wasn’t known.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Espinosa said he was so thankful that everyone was safe.
“Now, just pray for us that the insurance covers everything.”
