MOAB, Utah, July 24, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody after a report of shots fired early Thursday morning.
The shots were fired at a residence on Nuevo Court, a statement from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office says.
“Moab City Police Department responded and found multiple bullet strikes to a residence, garage and a vehicle. Thankfully, no one was injured inside the residence.
“Approximately 35 minutes later, officers located 22-year-old Zane Beecher Maher-Young walking near the area with visible injuries and blood on his clothing. During the investigation, detectives recovered a 9mm handgun believed to have been used in the shooting, along with additional evidence linking Maher-Young to the incident.”
Based on evidence and statements made during the investigation, detectives believe the shooting was targeted and premeditated,” the Grand County Sheriff statement says. “Additional search warrants have been executed as investigators continue to collect evidence.”
Maher-Young was booked into the Grand County jail for investigation of the alleged crimes of:
- Two counts of murder (attempted), a second-degree felony
- Felony discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony
- Two counts of prohibited dangerous weapon conduct, category 1
The investigation is ongoing.
