UTAH COUNT, Utah, July 16, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Jordan man convicted of starting a 2017 fire in the area of the Timpooneke camp in American Fork Canyon has been arrested in connection with the Timp Fire, a wildfire discovered on July 9 in the same area.
Conrad Jared Larson, 46, was arrested for arson — property another, damages greater than $5,000, a second-degree felony.
On July 9, a Thursday, “Witnesses observed a male matching Conrad’s description actively throwing sticks on a fire,” says his July 15 arrest document, filed by an officer of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
“This fire was outside a firepit, consumed two bushes, and had flames approximately 10 feet high while Conrad was throwing more fuel on the fire. Conrad was also seen in the area before and after the fire.
“An exact value of the damage has not been gathered at this time. However, Forest Service personnel advised the fire was several acres and cost will be greater than $5,000.
“Additionally, this will be a second arson offense within 10 years enhancing the charge to a 2nd degree.”
When Conrad was located, “he was found holding a large log and had a lighter in his back pocket. When asked concerning the arsonfires in the area, Conrad advised he knew there had been an incident but did not know what had happened.
“Conrad advised he likes to have campfires every night. Conrad also had a very strong odor of smoke coming from his vehicle.”
Larsen was ordered held without bail.
