SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 16, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews from the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Dominion Gas responded to gas leak Tuesday morning outside the Red Lion Hotel.

It was Dominion Energy that detected the underground leak and called the SLCFD for backup, Chief Anthony Burton told Gephardt Daily. Crews came to 161 W. 600 South.

“Dominion detected underground gas levels that were rather high,” Burton said. “We sent a full assignment. It was adjacent to the Red Lion Hotel, and with the assistance of Dominion Energy, we enacted a shelter in place, and we did request buses in case we needed to evacuate. With gas leaks, situations can change very quickly.

“Luckily, we didn’t have to do that,” Burton said. “The Dominion crews were able to isolate the leak to an old service line outside the hotel.”

The gas was turned off, and repairs are being made, Burton said at 11:45 a.m.

“We were there to protect people in the area and the Dominion crews,” he said. “With things under control, we are starting to send some crews home.”
