UTAH – November 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – High winds sweeping through northern Utah Tuesday caused road closures and left thousands of people without power.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation, there were no semis allowed on I-80 in Tooele County for several hours after a strong winds had already blown over one semi truck earlier Tuesday morning. That ban has now been lifted.
Guardsman Pass has also been closed due to adverse weather conditions.
Rocky Mountain Power crews continued to work on the power outages Tuesday and more outages are expected as high winds continue across the Wasatch Front throughout the day.
There are currently 215 people out of power in Hooper, Ogden, Taylor and West Haven. That is down from the original 923 reported earlier in the day. The cause of this outage is unknown at this time.
There are still 1,131 people without power in Kamas, Oakley, Peoa, and Wanship. The cause of this outage is also unknown.
Homes in Cottonwood Heights and Holladay have almost all been restored from an earlier pole fire that left 1,482 people in the dark. There are still 236 still affected.
Some 1,087 residents are without power in Farr West and Plain City. The expected time of restoration is 1 p.m. Tuesday.
There are currently 4,175 residents in Murray, Salt Lake City, and South Salt Lake who will continue to be without power until around 4 p.m. today.
Crews are currently on several different scenes and are trying to restore power as quickly as possible.
The National Weather Service continues to warn against high winds and severe weather conditions for Tuesday and into Wednesday.
Gusts of up to 55 MPH have also been reported in West Valley City and at the Salt Lake City International Airport.
