UTAH, May 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — More than 3,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers remain without power in Ogden and the surrounding areas due to high winds that blew through the state at the weekend.

The power company warned on its website Sunday some customers may be without power into Monday.

The storm affected as many as 39,000 customers Saturday night, which was reduced to the 24,000 by noon Sunday. The power company said on Twitter Sunday afternoon it has 115 repair personnel in the field, including 17 troubleshooters, 14 line repair crews and six tree trimming crews.

RMP updated the large-scale outage information page of its website at 9:20 a.m. Monday.

The update said: “We are aware of scattered power outages in Ogden and surrounding areas. We have multiple reports of lines down, trees on lines due to the severe windstorm. Approximately 3,297 customers are currently without power. We apologize for the inconvenience. All local crews are making repairs and additional contract crews have been enlisted to assist with power restoration. We will continue to work through the day to make repairs and restore power.

“As a safety reminder please treat all down lines as live and dangerous. Thank you for your patience as we work to safely restore your power as quickly as possible.”

RMP also tweeted that most of the damage was centered in Davis and Weber counties, with gusts as high as 91 mph reported.

A high wind warning was in effect until 3 p.m. Sunday for areas along the Northern Wasatch Front, but the Utah Department of Transportation tweeted there would be continued strong gusts through 1 a.m. Monday.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
