Hogle Zoo provides video update on baby gorilla as he turns five days old

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Hogle Zoo updated the progress of their baby gorilla on the 5-day anniversary of his birth.

“Some updates on our newest little troop member!” the zoo announced online Tuesday evening, noting mother Pele and baby are doing great. The little fella was born Thursday, May 30, around 6:30 p.m.

“The little guy has already hit many milestones, like sleeping and nursing around the clock.

“Pele has been a rock star mom, taking privacy and space when she needs it and keeping her little one close to her. Dad Husani continues to keep the peace and watch over the troop.”

Video provided by the zoo showed the baby tucked in mom’s large arms, sightings might be harder to come by, the zoo advised for those hoping for a peek..

“Depending on what Pele, the baby, and the troop need, they might be outside, off-exhibit, or in their indoor spaces. The best times to spot the troop are right at opening, 9 a.m. and around 11:30 a.m. for snack time!

“Thank you for helping us maintain a calm environment for our growing family. Your support means the world!”

Big sister, Georgia, almost 4, is “over the moon” about the newest family member of the western lowland gorilla troop, according to the zoo’s post online. “She can hardly wait to have a playmate ‘almost’ as energetic as she is. This experience is also important for Georgia, as she gets to witness a pregnancy and birth firsthand, preparing her for her potential future as a mom.”
