UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah County Sheriff investigators are asking for tips that might help them identify human remains found by a hiker Saturday near Springville.
The hiker alerted law enforcement officials that evening, saying “he found human remains in an area that is one canyon north of the Lime Kiln, commonly referred to as ‘Springville Rock Canyon,’ in the mountains east of Springville.
“He told investigators that he was climbing in very steep terrain above the northeast part of Springville when he came upon what he believed were human remains. Investigators responded and found what appeared to be skeletonized human remains. The Medical Examiner confirmed that the remains are human.
Investigators spoke to local law enforcement agencies, and “none have any missing person cases that they believe may be connected to these remains,” says a statement from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
“Additional efforts to collect evidence are being made, but very little is known about the remains that were found. Also, evidence in the area suggests there may be a reason people like to go there for recreation or fun.”
If anyone has information that may help to identify this person, please contact the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau and ask to speak to Detective Fuell or leave a voicemail for him. That number is 801-851-4010.
