La Verkin brush fire contained at 2 acres Wednesday afternoon

LA VERKIN, Utah, May 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Several homes were threatened by a brush fire Wednesday afternoon before multiple fire departments controlled the flames.  

In total, 12 fire fighting engines and vehicles were called out to the blaze reported at 3 p.m., according to Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue, reporting online Wednesday night.

“First arriving crews arrived on scene within five minutes, and were able to initiate an attack on the fire,” Hurricane Fire said. “Because there were several homes threatened and the terrain, additional units were called in from Color Country (Washington County).” Responders included BLM crews and the La Verkin City Police Department..

In total the fire was approximately 2 acres and there was damage sustained to a metal shipping container as well as the contents inside the container, according to the news release.

“The fire was human caused, and no injuries were reported.”
