CEDAR CITY, Utah, Dec. 17, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people suspected of trying to rob Cedar City’s Suds & Duds Laundromat are in jail after the laundromat’s owner and a man who happened to be walking by held guns on the duo and summoned police.
The Suds & Duds owner told police that about 4 p.m. Thursday he was watching a security camera when he saw a man and women using tools to try and break into a coin machine.
The business owner said he confronted the suspects with a handgun, and when the male suspect started approaching the owner, he shot a warning shot into the wall, according to a Cedar City Police news release.
“The brief altercation spilled outside of the business onto the sidewalk,” the news release said. “The suspect then disengaged with the business owner and he and the female, who had also been inside the store, then entered an SUV that was parked in the parking lot.”
“The business owner attempted to hold the suspects at gunpoint,” the release continued. “A passerby observed this occurring and stopped to assist. He, too, possessed a handgun and asked the business owner if he needed help. Both men held the suspects at gunpoint until the police arrived.”
Police arrived at the Suds & Duds, at 700 West and 200 North, and took the two suspects and a man waiting in the SUV into custody. All were booked into the Iron County Jail.
