SANDY, UTAH – October 29, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – I-15 southbound near 9400 South looked a lot like a pasture on Thursday morning. A semi-truck carrying a load of hay lost a pair of one-ton bales around 5 a.m.

Two semi-trucks behind that vehicle hit the bales and crashed into one another. Five other vehicles were also involved in minor crashes, but UHP Sgt. Donovan Lucas said there were no injuries.

UHP called in a small army of front-end loaders and snow plows to push the hay to the side of the interstate and haul it away. It took almost three hours for the mess to be cleared and five loads of hay to be removed from the scene. All lanes of traffic were reopened by 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

The semi-truck driver who was hauling the hay is expected to be cited. A safety inspection of the truck was done at the scene of the accident.
