LOGAN, Utah, Jan. 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Logan man has been booked into jail on 21 counts of felonies against a child.
Trisden Alan Smith, 22, is being held in the Cache County jail in lieu of posting $200,000 cash-only bail.
Each of the charges is a first-degree felony. They are:
- One count of rape of a child
- Nine counts of sodomy on a child
- Eleven counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child
According to Smith’s probable cause statement, an 11-year-old girl told authorities that Smith, who had acted as a caregiver to her for a period of three to four years, “had sexually abused her hundreds of times.”
“The victim disclosed that Trisden would sexually abuse her nearly every time that she was alone with him,” the statement says.
The child described being touched under her clothing on a regular basis.
“She talked about how Trisden would threaten her that if she did not engage in these sexual activities with him that he would tell people about it.”
Police downloaded data from Smith’s phone, and found messages that were sexual in nature, the statement says. The investigation found that there may be at least one more victim.
During a post-Miranda interview, Smith denied that anything had happened between him and the 11-year-old.
“When confronted about direct allegations that the victim had made against him, Trisden would nod his head in the affirmative as if to agree with the allegations,” the statement says, but he would continue to deny them.
Asked if the girl might need treatment for any venereal diseases as a result of interactions with him, Smith “stated ‘If I have them then she does.'”
After a period of questioning, Smith elected to remain silent, the statement said.
