WEST JORDAN, Utah, Aug. 6, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A male has been transported to an area hospital after an officer-involved shooting incident in the heart of West Jordan.

West Jordan Police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Hercules told reporters that his agency was called to the scene at about 11:14 a.m. Wednesday, after a confrontation between law enforcement officers from Utah County and someone they were attempting to apprehend near 7800 South and 2200 West.

Hercules declined to answer most of the questions asked by reporters, saying information would come from the West Valley OICI (Officer-Involved Critical Incident) investigative team or from the Utah County Sheriff‘s Office.

Hercules said the gunfire took place during an altercation “between Task Force officers and the subject that they were attempting to apprehend, and shots were fired by members of that task force.

“One officer from that task force was evaluated by medical on scene and released, and the subject involved in the shooting was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.”

Hercules declined to answer questions regarding whether the male was an adult or juvenile, or whether the injuries that sent him to the hospital came from being shot. A vehicle being photographed by police officers at the scene, near 2000 West and 7800 South, showed a vehicle with multiple bullet holes in its windshield.

This UDOT traffic advisory was lifted shortly after 2 p.m.

The vehicle appeared to have been blocked from leaving by law enforcement vehicles.

Hercules did not reveal for what alleged crimes the male was being investigated, or the nature of the task force, again saying that information would come from Utah County officials or the OICI team when they choose to release it.

“Our officers were called to come and help with the incident,” Hercules said.

“Obviously, it was a pretty significant incident that happened right here in our city, and our officers just want to make sure that everybody’s OK and do our best to keep everybody safe. And so our officers responded to help out.”

The roadway has since been reopened to regular traffic, Hercules said.
