WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was allegedly beaten, robbed, then thrown over a fence by his “former friends” in West Valley City, according to court documents.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County, said Rosario Lorenzo Nunes, 18, Antonio Raymond Bejarano, 18, and a juvenile were arrested Tuesday.
Nunes and Bejarano are facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second degree felony. The two were transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with their bails set at $100,000 each.
The statement said that on Sunday, an officer found the victim with his hands tied behind his back, pants around his ankles, badly beaten outside of an address in the area of 3800 S. Redwood Road. The victim was able to identify his former friends, Nunes, Bejarano, and a juvenile, as his assailants. The victim said he has known the suspects for more than three years.
“The suspects picked up the victim from the mall and drove the victim around town as he made marijuana sales,” the statement said. “The suspects returned with the victim to one of the suspect’s mother’s apartment. During the night the victim showed the suspects his marijuana, cash, jewelry, MacBook and phones. At one point the victim said he had so much cash he could not close his wallet.”
The victim said as he went to leave the apartment for the night, Nunes grabbed him from behind, choking him. The victim said he was taken to the floor where Bejarano and the juvenile also began beating him.
“The victim said he lost consciousness a few times for a few moments during the assault,” the statement said. “At one point he saw Rosario swing a baseball bat which struck him in the face twice. The victim heard Rosario yell, ‘Just die.’ The victim said Antonio and the juvenile stuffed clothing items into his mouth to keep him quiet as they hit him. The victim said his cloth belt was removed and used to tie his hands behind his back. The victim said his pants were pulled down to his ankles.”
The victim said he remembered Bejarano taking his MacBook Air in the apartment.
“The victim said he was then carried by the suspects from the apartment and they discussed what they should do with him next,” the statement said. “One suspect suggested they throw him into a canal. The victim heard Rosario told them just to throw him over the fence. The victim was dropped over a six foot fence and left without his Rolex watch, gold chains, gold earrings, wallet with ID, $3,000 cash, two cellular phones, MacBook Air, backpack, and marijuana.”
The victim was transported to the hospital where it was found he had suffered two broken facial bones, a broken tooth and a concussion. A search warrant was served at the apartment, and baseball bats and marijuana were recovered.
On Tuesday, the three suspects agreed to turn themselves over to the police.
