PROVO, Utah, Jan. 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man died after his car hydroplaned then rolled on Interstate 15 in the Provo area Thursday afternoon.
A news release from the Utah Highway Patrol said a 2000 Toyota 4-runner was traveling southbound on I-15 near mile marker 266 in the HOV lane just before 12:15 p.m.
“The roads were wet and it was raining hard at the time,” the news release said. “After traveling too fast for the conditions, the vehicle hydroplaned on the water and drifted to the left through the left emergency lane striking the concrete barrier with its left front.”
The vehicle rolled several times coming to rest in the left emergency lane facing northbound.
The driver, a 48-year-old man, sustained injuries to his head, and was transported to the hospital, where he subsequently died. The front passenger, a 13-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries. Both were wearing their seat belts. They were both were transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
The deceased man has not been identified.
