Man dead, woman critically injured in Sevier County rollover, ejection

SEVIER COUNTY, Utah, July 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 20-year-old man died and a 19-year-old woman was critically injured after their Jeep Cherokee rolled off Interstate 70 near Joseph.

The incident happened at about 6:36 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, near mile marker 38.

“The roadway has a gradual right-hand turn in the area,” the Utah Highway Patrol statement says. “The Jeep ran off the road into the median as the road curved.  The driver then overcorrected, and the Jeep ran off the road to the right. 

“The Jeep traveled down an embankment and rolled multiple times. Neither of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt, and they were both ejected.  A 20-year-old male occupant was pronounced dead on the scene, and a 19-year-old female occupant was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

“Fatigue is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.”
