SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, April 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A South Jordan man who died after crashing his motorcycle on Interstate 15 Sunday night has been identified.

John Unker, 48, was driving a red 2014 BMW S1000RR motorcycle, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

UHP Sgt. Jalaine Hawkes told Gephardt Daily there were no witnesses to the crash, but it appears the motorcyclist was heading north on I-15, intending to go onto State Route 201, when he lost control of the motorcycle and hit the concrete barrier at approximately 9 p.m.

She said it’s possible that speed was a factor in the crash. The motorcycle continued for some distance from the point of impact. Hawkes said Unker was not wearing a helmet.

The ramp was shut down for the investigation.
