CLEARFIELD, UTAH – August 25, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A man who died after attempting to go around traffic that was stopped for a semi backing up at the Freeport Center in Clearfield Tuesday afternoon has been identified.

According to officers, traffic was stopped waiting for the semi when Dalton Bowers, 25, from South Weber apparently didn’t want to wait and went around the cars attempting to fit between the trailer on the semi and the cab but misjudged the opening and went under the trailer.

It is estimated, based on witness accounts that despite the posted 30 mph speed, that Bowers was going in excess of 70 mph at the time of impact, pinning him under the rig and forcing the 10,000 lb semi to be moved nearly 15 feet.

Bowers was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.

The crash is still under investigation but officers say it is an area where semis are always backing up and it is not uncommon for cars to have to wait. They are hoping surveillance footage will provide more details into the incident.
