SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An early morning fight outside a club sent one man to the hospital on Saturday.

Police say an argument turned violent when one man pulled a gun and shot the other in the leg. The incident happened outside Totem’s Club & Cafe, 538 S. Redwood Road, at about 1:45 a.m.

“It appears that two individuals had left the bar here, got into some kind of altercation in the parking lot,” Lt. Scott Smalley, Salt Lake City Police Department, said at the scene.

“During that altercation, the suspect took out a gun and shot the victim at least once in the leg, but at this point, we don’t believe there’s anybody involved that’s outstanding that would be a danger to the public.”

Smalley said the victim’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Initially, neither party was cooperative, he said.

“We were getting some conflicting information in the beginning, but we did call out detectives in this case that will be talking to all involved parties, to try and and determine what precipitated not just the the argument, but what led up to the shooting.”

Investigators were called in to process the scene for shell casings and any other evidence.

One man was detained, but his name has not yet been released.
