AMERICAN FORK, Utah, Dec. 5, 2017 (Gerphardt Daily) — American Fork Police responded to a shooting Monday night at Taco Bell at 633 S. 500 East.
American Fork Police Sgt. Josh Christensen told Gephardt Daily officers were dispatched just prior to 5:30 p.m. on a call of shots fired. It was reported that a man had shot another man multiple times and then fled the area on foot.
One man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, the American Fork Police Department said in a news release early Tuesday morning.
Officers searched the area and, with the help of witnesses and citizens, were able to quickly locate the suspect running away from the scene. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Pursuant to the investigation, it was determined that two male juveniles met up with a man and woman at this location for the purpose of robbing them. The man and woman did not immediately comply and an altercation ensued.
“During the altercation, one of the juveniles pulled out a handgun and shot the man multiple times,” the news release said. “The juvenile then began to run away from the scene. The juvenile noticed he was being followed by a witness in a vehicle; at which point, the juvenile turned and fired multiple shots at the witness, striking his vehicle multiple times. The juvenile continued to run away from the scene until he was stopped and apprehended by police.”
The man who was shot is still listed in critical condition but is expected to survive, police said. The woman also suffered minor injuries and was treated and released on scene.
Both juveniles were booked into detention for multiple charges, including attempted aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, felony discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, multiple drugs charges and others.
The investigation is still ongoing; police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the American Fork Police Department through Utah Valley Dispatch at 801-794- 3970.
