IRON COUNTY, Utah, April 3, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The search for a man missing since Monday in Iron County has been called off, according to Iron County Sheriff’s Office.
Search and rescue crews have been searching for 34-year-old Daniel Brown since 11 a.m. Tuesday when his wife called for help.
The woman said she, her husband and their four children had been trapped in their van after being caught in blizzard-like conditions since Monday and Brown left the vehicle at approximately 4 p.m. Monday in search for help.
Deputies were able to hike to the stranded vehicle, and made contact with the wife and the children, who were taken a hospital in Cedar City in good condition.
Iron County Search and Rescue, Iron County Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the United States Forest Service, Upper Limit Aviation and Iron County Sheriff’s deputies have all been involved in the search for Brown.
On Thursday, deputies changed their search efforts to a recovery in hopes of finding Brown’s body. Due to the weather conditions over the past week, and the amount of clothing Brown was wearing, search and rescue crews felt if he had stayed in the area, the chance of finding him alive were slim.
Deputies said they believe if Brown had died in the area, they would have found his body by now so that has left open the possibility that Brown walked away from his family intentionally and could be still alive and have issued a missing person flyer in search for him.
If anyone has seen Brown outside the area or they have other relevant information to share, officials ask they call Iron County emergency dispatchers at 435-867-7550.
