SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – November 16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police in Salt Lake City have arrested a man who shot a rifle at an occupied vehicle parked near the homeless shelter Sunday night.
According to Salt Lake Police, a man was sitting in his car just south of the homeless shelter when Matthew Staton, 24, who was sitting in the vehicle parked next to him, got out and retrieved a rifle from the trunk.
Staton allegedly fired a round into the rear side quarter panel of the victim’s vehicle, then got back into his car and left.
Police spotted the suspect driving downtown a few hours later and Staton was pulled over and arrested. Officers found bullets during a search of the suspect’s vehicle.
The gun used in the incident was later recovered in Pleasant Grove.
Staton was booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
