MEXICAN HAT, Utah – Dec. 4, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A man who was on the run after a woman was found dead in San Juan County has surrendered to authorities.
Officials said the suspect sought in connection with the woman’s death surrendered in the area of Mexican Hat, Utah near a Navajo reservation Thursday around 5 p.m.
According to a press release from San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, an apparent land dispute resulted in a confrontation between a 45-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman near Mexican Water, Arizona, on the evening of November 30.
Officials said the circumstances of the dispute are under investigation but it ended with the woman being killed.
The press release said: “The man’s truck was located in the desert, now in San Juan County, where it had become stuck. Nearby, the woman’s body was found hidden under a tree.”
Searchers from agencies including the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, the Utah Department of Public Safety, Navajo Nation Police and the FBI were searching for the man southeast of Mexican Hat in San Juan County.
The man was spotted by a Utah DPS helicopter, and taken into custody by personnel from the FBI and the Navajo Nation.
