MIDVALE, Utah, July 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is under arrest after he allegedly assaulted a woman at a holiday party.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Riley Ray Millen, 23, is facing charges of kidnapping, a second-degree felony; two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and threat of violence, a class B misdemeanor.

The arresting officer was dispatched to a domestic call in Midvale on July 7, the probable cause statement said.

“I met the victim in the Jordan Valley Hospital in West Jordan,” the statement said. “Victim’s left eye was swollen shut, she had lacerations around said eye and face, she had a neck brace with various lacerations and bruising on her arms.”

According to the victim, she met up with Millen, a former boyfriend with whom she used to live, and went to the Midvale address, belonging to his father, to socialize and watch fireworks.

“While doing so, the suspect had become angry regarding various past relationship issues,” the statement said. “While arguing, the suspect became upset and pushed the victim to the ground. Victim then told suspect to stop, and he began to kick her in the stomach and face.

“After doing so, suspect climbed on top of victim. He strangled and punched her in the face with a closed fist,” the statement said.

The victim said she remembered Millen punching her eye, the report said.

“She then woke up to the suspect wiping off blood of her face with toilet paper,” the statement went on. “She claimed at that time she blacked out and could not remember what happened.”

The victim then got up and said she wanted to leave and call police.

“The suspect told her she was not allowed to leave and grabbed a pink rifle,” the statement said. “He swung the butt of the rifle at her. She was able to dodge the blow. The suspect then turned the gun and pointed it at the victim. He stated he would kill her and her family if she went to police or left the residence.”

The victim feared she was going to be shot and was able to leave the residence, the statement said. She then ran down the street, while Millen was running after her, swearing, she said.

The victim was then picked up by a friend and transported to the hospital, the police statement said.

When the arresting officer made contact with suspect Millen at the residence in Midvale, he claimed he was assaulted by the victim’s family members. Millen had dried blood over his face and bare chest, the statement said.

After being read his Miranda rights, Millen stated he did not have any physical altercation with the victim. He admitted they were partying at the Midvale address however, “nothing got physical, it was all verbal,” he said.

When the arresting officer searched Millen’s room, he found toilet paper with blood in it. Blood splatter around the walls, door, and floor was located. A pink rifle, a BB gun, was located behind the bed.

Millen was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $20,680.
