CARBON COUNTY, Utah, March 9, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday evening that a car belonging to DeEtte Spencer, who has been missing since Jan. 26, was located Thursday in a remote area of Carbon County, but no other signs of the 70-year-old woman were found.

A utility company worker had been checking wells, spotted the car, and contacted the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, a Garfield County Sheriff’s Office news release says.

Searchers reached the car late Thursday afternoon and hunted for evidence until dark, but found no further signs of Spencer.

“Beginning early Friday, Carbon County personnel were joined by Utah County Search and Rescue members with drones and K-9s, searching throughout the day, again unsuccessfully,” the release says.

The effort was expanded Saturday, adding 50 to 60 search personnel from multiple counties, along with more K-9s, drones and an airplane, the release says.

“So far, all efforts to find DeEtte have been unsuccessful.

“Based on the investigation at the location where the car was found, officials don’t believe foul play is involved in DeEtte’s disappearance. They suspect she may have left the vehicle on foot due to issues with her car, and wandered away.”

Spencer was last seen at about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Walmart in Price after she had visited family in Colorado.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office thanked Carbon County Sheriff Wood and his staff for organizing and conducting the searches, along with everyone else who participated. A nationwide Attempt-to-Locate bulletin and statewide Silver Alert have been issued and remain active, the release says.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office at 435-636-3251.
