MURRAY, Utah, April 8, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people have been hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash Saturday morning on northbound Interstate 15 near 5200 South, in Murray.
The chain-reaction accident happened at about 11:10 a.m. when a 35-year-old man driving a Chrysler 300 lost control of his car on the rain soaked roads, according to Sgt. Jalaine Hawke, Utah Highway Patrol.
“He hydroplaned and crashed into a concrete barrier,” Hawke said. “All of the people behind started slamming on their brakes to avoid hitting him, and two semis were involved. One got rear ended and the other rear ended someone else.”
Hawke said the 35-year-old Chrysler driver and a 60-year-old man from another vehicle were transported to Intermountain Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The older man was unconscious for a period of time, she said.
As of 12:45 p.m., Hawke said, no other major injuries has been reported, but officers were still assessing the scene. One lane of traffic had been cleared, and backed-up traffic was beginning to move.
“There were three or four other crashes that happened behind the main accident because of the traffic backups,” she said.
Hawkes said officers were still determining how many vehicles were damaged in the incident, but the number was “more than 20.”
