WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, June 5, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A potential multi-car blaze was avoided Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 15 by a mass turnout of emergency responders.

Overheated brakes had started a fire underneath a vehicle hauler with six or more vehicles onboard.

“Just before 2:30 p.m. fire crews were dispatched to I-15 southbound at mile marker 33 for a vehicle hauler that was on fire,” Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue said in an online news release.

“Prior to crews arrival the driver of the semi was able to disconnect the front car hauler attached to the semi and unload one vehicle off the back of the hauler.

“Once crews arrived on scene they were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Because of the quick response by our crews there was only minimal damage to one of the vehicles being hauled.”

Five fire vehicles responded, as well as the Utah Highway Patrol, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the UDOT incident management team.
