UTAH, Oct. 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Winter storms are just ahead for Utah, the National Weather Service says.

“A storm will bring accumulating snow to all of the mountains of Utah, the Wasatch Back, and Uinta County, Wyoming,” the statement says.

“Snow will begin across northern Utah Monday evening before shifting south overnight Monday. Snow will continue on and off through early Wednesday.”

Predicted accumulations are:

  • Mountains north of Interstate 80 — 4-8 inches, with up to 12 inches in the Ogden-area mountains
  • Mountains south of I-80 — 6-12 inches, with up to 16 inches in the Upper Cottonwoods
  • Wasatch Back and Uinta County — 2-5 inches, with up to 8 inches near Park City and southern Uinta County
  • Central/Southern Mountains — 4-8 inches, local, up to 12 inches in the Tushars and ridgeline east of Fillmore

The notice suggests being prepared for traction restrictions on mountain routes; slowing down and allowing more time to safely reach destinations, and carrying well-equipped winter survival kits when traveling. It also suggests checking road conditions before leaving by visiting udottraffic.utah.gov.

Southwest Utah

An additional notice issued Sunday afternoon says gusty winds are coming to southwest Utah, and people should expect gusts up to 50 mph Monday afternoon, to diminish in the evening. Sustained winds will likely be in the 20 to 30 mph range.

The winds will be especially noticeable in the Cedar City and Millford areas, the NWS statement says.

The notice suggests people secure outdoor objects, such as trampolines, trash cans and Halloween decorations, to avoid property damage.

The agency also warns that on State Routes 21 and SR-56, cross winds may be strong, causing difficult travel for high-profile vehicles, boats and RVs.

Blowing dust may obscure visibility in some areas, and power outages are possible, the statement says.
