MERIDAN, Idaho, March 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Idaho’s Ada County Sheriff’s Department wants to hear from anyone with information on who may have vandalized the Meridian, Idaho, LDS Temple, currently under construction.

“Someone broke into the construction area between 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and used black spray paint to cover walls with graffiti — including racist symbols and anti-religious messages,” said a statement from the office.

“The vandals also emptied tubes of construction adhesive on the walls and floors of the building, causing at least $500 worth of damage.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced its plan to build the temple in April of 2011, and released the artist’s rendering in 2013. The temple is expected to open in late 2017, but no date has been announced.

There have been other reports of theft at the construction site since last year, including a welding unit and an industrial saw, according to the statement. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Justin Elliot at 208-577-3702.
