OGDEN, UTAH- August 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) –
A Utah man has been arrested and charged with raping a 12-year-old girl.
According to the North Ogden Police Department, Martize Washington, 20, sexually assaulted the child after luring her behind a North Ogden business late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
Police say Washington originally met the 12-year-old through a mutual acquaintance and had continued communicating with her through social media.
Wednesday night investigators say he invited her to an Ogden area hotel around 11 p.m. When she declined, Washington persuaded her to meet him at the North Ogden business. The alleged sexual assault took place a short while later.
Police say the girl returned home and told her mother what had happened. The mother took the child to McKay Dee Hospital and then contacted police.
Washington was taken into custody Saturday at an Ogden Motel 6.
He’s been booked into the Weber County Jail on first degree felony child rape charges.
