LAYTON, Utah, Nov. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Northridge High School sophomore is in custody after allegedly cutting another student’s neck with a razor blade Thursday.
Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman told Gephardt Daily officers responded to the school at 2430 N. Hill Field Rd during the lunch hour.
Lyman said a 15-year-old student had walked up to another 15-year-old student, who was sitting down in the common area, and “cut the victim’s neck.”
He said the injury was “substantial and serious, but not life-threatening.”
The victim was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital, Lyman said, where he received “quite a few” stitches.
He added that the incident was the culmination of an ongoing disagreement between the two sophomores.
The suspect was arrested and will be be booked into Farmington Bay Youth Center. He is facing charges of attempted homicide and possession of a dangerous weapon in a school.
The school’s principal, Brian Hunt, sent the following email to parents:
Dear parents,
I want to let you know of an incident that occurred today at our school.
One of our students was allegedly assaulted by another student during lunch. The injured student was cut by a razor blade and sustained an injury to his neck.
The altercation involved only two students and was short-lived. The student who allegedly assaulted the other was quickly apprehended by the school resource officer and a school administrator. Because of the quick action by the SRO, the school was not placed in lockdown.
The student who allegedly committed the assault is in custody and will be referred to district case management for a safe school violation.
Classes continued for the rest of the day as normal.
