SPRINGVILLE, Utah, Dec. 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — An off-duty corrections officer stepped in and restrained a suspect on Tuesday after police say the man entered a Springville pizza restaurant and harassed customers and their children, then threatened an employee with a knife.
Clinton Carroll Camp, 50, was booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor, on Tuesday afternoon, a probable cause statement says.
“Officers responded to 442 S 1750 West on a report of a man wielding a knife at Papa John’s restaurant,” the statement says. “On arrival, witnesses advised Clinton Camp was inside the restaurant approaching customers’ children, and staff in an aggressive and upset manner that was causing concern for both customers and staff.
A staff member approached the suspect and asked him to leave the restaurant.
“When Camp was asked to leave the property, Camp pulled a knife from his pocket and charged at the employee,” the statement says. “An off duty corrections officer witnessed the incident and was able to take physical control of Camp by taking him to the ground and restraining him until officers could arrive.”
Once handcuffed, Camp became angrier, the statement says.
“He began to shout and yell at female customers of the business, calling out “Bitch! You bitch!, repeatedly.”
Camp did not stop yelling until officers eventually were able to calm him down, the statement says.
Camp has a recent conviction for resisting arrest and numerous drug, theft, and trespassing arrests and convictions, the probable cause statement notes.
Camp is being held in lieu of posting $5,150 bail.
Any reason as to why he was threatening people? High? Mentally ill? Racist? Sexist? Didn’t like the garlic bread?
This officer needs first to be commended for taking control of the suspect and the situation. Well done officer!
Next he needs to drive to Wendover and give lessons to the police force there.
