Ogden – March 25, 2015 – Adam Barney, accused of killing his girlfriend’s baby plead guilty in 2nd district court on Wednesday.

Barney and his girlfriend resided in an Ogden motel room along with Kenzie’s mother and her two young sons when on August 25, 2014, Kenzie would not wake up. Emergency crews responded to the call and based on court documents, Kenzie was “beyond medical help and deceased.”

An autopsy performed by state Medical Examiner’s office revealed that the child’s cause of death was “homicide due to blunt force trauma to the abdominal area causing the victim to hemorrhage internally.”

Barney accepted a plea deal that would recommend he be sentenced to life with the possibility of parole but not after he serves a minimum of 25 years. At that time it is up to the parole board to make a determination on if he spends the rest of his life behind bars.

According to Chris Allred, county attorney for Weber county, he is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13th, 2015.
