OGDEN, Utah, May 11, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was booked into the Weber County jail last week after he allegedly threatened a man with a knife, and the victim defended himself with a blast of pepper spray.

Ogden Police officials were called to the scene, near 2800 Washington Blvd., on Friday, May 7, after dispatch received a call regarding a man threatening people with a knife.

Officers detained suspect Keane Faust, 37, who now faces one count of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. Officials took his knife, the probable cause statement says.

“I first spoke to the victim who stated that he was sitting across the street from the address,” says a statement filed by an Ogden Police Department officer.

“He stated that a man he did not know approached him and started yelling at
him. The victim stated that the male called him a child molester and then pulled out a knife and told him he was going to kill him. The victim stated that the male started moving closer and leaning back and forth in a threatening manner.

“The victim then pulled out a small container of pepper spray and sprayed it in the direction of the suspect.” The victim identified Faust as the aggressor.

A witness was also on scene and reported hearing Faust screaming, and said she saw the victim on the ground while Faust was standing, yelling at him.

“The witness moved her vehicle to get a better vantage point and when she looked back at Keane, she saw that he was moving away while carrying a knife and the male who was sitting was holding his hand out in front of him while talking on the phone.”

The officer attempted to read Faust his Miranda rights, the statement says.

“Keane continued to interrupt and make unintelligible statements,” the officer’s statement says. “I finished reading the Miranda rights to Keane and asked him if he understood them. Keane said no without offering any other explanation. I asked Keane what part he did not understand and he told me he was a lawyer. He then said that he did not even know he was holding the knife.”

The officer did not attempt to further question Faust because of the failure to communicate Miranda rights. Faust was booked into the Weber County jail with bail set at $5,000. As of Tuesday, he remained incarcerated, jail records showed.
