Ogden man arrested after shots fired in early morning argument

OGDEN, Utah, Aug. 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden man was arrested in connection with a verbal altercation that ended in shots being fired early Sunday morning, officials said.

Devante Mack, 23, was booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, failure to stop at the command of a police officer, possession of a firearm by a restricted person and criminal mischief, according to a news release from Ogden Police Department on Facebook.

Officers were on a foot patrol of downtown 25th Street when they heard what sounded like a firearm being discharged at approximately 1:50 a.m., the news release said.

“Officers responded quickly to the 100 block of 25th Street,” the news release said. “Upon arrival, officers discovered that there had been a verbal altercation between two males. During the altercation, one of the males drew a firearm and fired rounds. It appears at this time that no individuals were injured in the exchange.”

Officers identified Mack as a person of interest; he was located in the area, taken into custody and interviewed.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. 

Officials did not say what led to the altercation.
