PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, May 9, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah County SWAT team used tear gas to arrest a man suspected of vehicular arson who barricaded himself in his Pleasant Grove home.

Pleasant Grove police responded Thursday morning to reports of a car fire that they later determined to be a possible arson.

“We quickly developed a suspect with the help of video surveillance. When we attempted to make contact with the suspect, he barricaded in his home and refused to come out,” the Pleasant Grove Police Department stated on social media.

Police say the man is known to have mental health issues and had been acting erratically for the past few days.

“Utah County SWAT was called to the scene. The individual refused to cooperate with SWAT officers when they tried to get him to come out of the house and surrender. Gas was used in the home and the suspect later complied and was taken safely into custody,” the post says.

The man has been booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of arson. No injuries were reported.

“We are grateful that no one was harmed during this incident, and that it had a peaceful resolution. A big thanks to the Utah County SWAT team for their quick and professional response,” the post says.
